A new, environmentally friendly and delicious way to eat frozen yogurt can be found in select Whole Foods grocery stores in the Boston area. Stoneyfield Frozen Yogurt has produced organic yogurt for years. Now they are going one step further in the world of “all natural” food products. The company’s founder has been working toward this goal of eliminating waste for decades. In a joint venture with Wikifoods, Stonyfield has a proprietary process to mix organic fruit and natural ions to produce an edible protective skin layer that can be washed and handled. The tasty yogurt comes in a flavored, all-natural edible skin. The “skin” works like a grapes; protecting the delicate fruit on the inside while providing a vessel for transportation. The introductory flavor options for the edible skin are:

  • Peach skin on vanilla frozen yogurt
  • Banana skin on vanilla frozen yogurt
  • Banana skin on chocolate frozen yogurt
  • coconut skin on chocolate frozen yogurt
  • strawberry skin on chocolate frozen yogurt
  • strawberry skin on vanilla frozen yogurt

Gary Hirshberg, co-founder of Stonyfield Farm has said “the next step would be a commercial rollout” if the Whole Foods test drive proved to be a hit. Keep on the lookout for this tasty and health conscious treat; they may be on your nearest grocery shelves sooner than you think!
