Illegal or soon-to-be illegal cocktails in New York

Nutcrackers (Banned in New York City)

A slushy frozen combination of sweet fruit juice (think mango, cranberry or citrus) with several high-proof liquors, such as 160-proof Devil’s Springs vodka, 151-proof Bacardi 151 rum, and moonshine.

The Original Four Loko

A caffeine-fueled spirit so you can get buzzed and drunk at the same time. It turns out that’s not such a good thing to drink “blackout in a can.” You can still find Four Loko on store shelves but it no longer contains caffeine.

Phrosties

Phrosties were rumored to contain illicit drugs but actually were made up of a moderate amount of alcohol and a whole lot of sugar.

Prediction: These will soon be added to the outlaw list in New York

Palcahol

Palcahol, a powdered alcohol that comes in a variety of flavors, including vodka, rum, Cosmopolitan, Kamikaze and Margarita. You simply mix the contents of the packet with water whenever you need a drink. While the federal government has approved Palcahol, legislation has been proposed to ban it in New York and other states.

Vaportini

Using a device that evaporates flavor-infused alcohol through a straw, intoxication sets in quickly as the vapors deliver the booze directly into your bloodstream instead of being processed through the stomach and liver.
